Measures for the development of the electric vehicle industry are presented
On February 6, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev got acquainted with a presentation on measures to expand electric vehicle production.
Uzbekistan has extensive experience and the necessary infrastructure in the automotive industry. Today, 8 factories produce dozens of types of cars, passenger and freight transport, agricultural, and special equipment. More than 2 thousand more enterprises produce components and spare parts based on cooperation.
At a meeting held in December last year, the Head of state emphasized that electric cars are rapidly entering our lives and gave instructions for developing this industry. During his state visit to China in January this year, the President visited the BYD headquarters. Together with this company, a project for the assembly of hybrid and electric cars has been launched in Jizzakh region. At a meeting with the head of this company, views were exchanged on increasing production capacity to 500 thousand units in the near future.
The demand for work in this direction is evidenced by the fact that over the past three years, the sale of electric vehicles in Uzbekistan has increased ten times. In 2023, 35 percent of vehicle imports were electric and hybrid vehicles.
In this regard, responsible persons have been instructed to expand previously defined plans for the electric vehicle industry and speed up the implementation of projects. The need was emphasized to establish, with the involvement of partners from BYD, the localization of components for electric vehicles.
Innovation and advanced technology are needed to be competitive in this new industry. Therefore, the task has been set to create an integrated system connecting the Turin Polytechnic University, engineering centers, scientific institutes, and laboratories.
With the development of this area, the demand for specialists and workers will increase. In the next three years, this need may reach 10 thousand people. In this regard, the need to begin training qualified personnel was noted.
A decision was made to work out a program to develop a network of electric vehicle charging stations.
