The first Central Asia – European Union summit will be held in Uzbekistan

On April 3-4, the city of Samarkand will host the events of the first Central Asia – European Union summit.
The summit, which will be chaired by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, will be attended by the President of the European Council António Costa, the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
The event, held under the motto “Investing in the Future,” is also expected to be attended by the heads of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank.
The agenda will consider the prospects for the development of multifaceted relations and practical interaction between the Central Asian states and the European Union.
The focus will be on expanding investment cooperation and increasing trade turnover, promoting joint programs and cooperation projects in the field of innovation, green energy, extractive industries, agriculture, transport, logistics and digitalization, continuing active exchanges in the field of culture, tourism, science, education and other priority areas.
The heads of delegations will also exchange views on current aspects of international and regional policy.
In accordance with the program, the leaders of Central Asian states and the heads of the main EU institutions will jointly take part in the plenary session of the Samarkand International Climate Forum, which will begin on April 4.
In addition, a number of bilateral meetings of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan with the heads of foreign delegations are planned on the sidelines of the summit.
